About Me

 About Me

The best days of my youth were spent on my grandparents’ hog farm. That is where I was taught to shoot. I got a bb gun when I was 8 (Red Ryder). A better bb gun when I was 10 (Crosman 766). And a .22LR when I was 12 (Marlin Model 60). It was my favorite place on earth, and I’m thankful that although the farm is now retired, the house and surrounding land have stayed in the family.

I only got back into airgunning recently. College and career took me away from shooting for most of the 90’s. When life finally settled back down, I was able to “rediscover” my passion for shooting. And the most exciting part is that I think I am actually getting better. It’s good to know my best years may still be ahead of me.

I am a hunter before all else. Fur, fin, and feather, I go after them all. Hunting is the reason I keep my skills sharp. It is the reason I take care of my equipment. It is the reason I keep my body strong. It is the way I find familiarity with my forgotten ancestors. It is the way I celebrate my place in nature. So, although I primarily use air rifles in my videos, do not be surprised to see me pull out a spear or shotgun from time to time.

My motivation for making videos is primarily to help teach and inspire a new generation of shooters and hunters. I see hunting and shooting slowly becoming a lost art in my country, as more and more people lose touch with their rural roots. The hard part is that I see young men, who are eager to learn, but have no one to mentor them. It is my hope that I can keep them interested until they can find someone to teach them the way I was taught.

I also like to inspire “old dogs” to try new tricks. There is a lot of innovative technology out there that can be put to good use – helping us to better understand ballistics and trajectory. While shooting fundamentals will always be the cornerstone of good marksmanship, it doesn’t mean we should not make use of the new set of digital tools available to us.

Why a Website?

Most of the emails and messages I receive ask me questions that I have already answered on Facebook or in the Youtube Comments. That isn’t a complaint. There is absolutely no way for the fella who wrote me to know that I already answered his question, in detail, 3 months ago in the comments section of a video he may have never even watched. For a while, I saved some of my elaborate responses on my hard drive, and simply copied/pasted them whenever the question popped back up. But, as you can imagine, as the “answer archive” grew, it become more and more disorganized….until I could no longer stay afloat.

This is why I faded away from answering questions on Youtube and Facebook, and if you are someone who wrote me a courteous and thorough message, only to be met with silence, you can take solace in the fact that I built this website for YOU. I’m serious. I want to answer every question I get, but a man can only type the same thing so many times before he loses his mind (think of how irritated you get when you complete a detailed response on a forum, only to get the error screen of death when you press the submit button . How easy is it to type that all again?) ;) So that is the purpose of this project – to make sure these answers are organized and searchable.

This also applies to my videos. I am coming up on 100 uploads, and there is no way someone can sift through them all. Playlists are well and good for someone with three hours to kill, but come up very short as an organization system. Time is a commodity that is in shorter and shorter supply. The video library I am building is designed to save as much of your time as possible.

I have already created a few pages for individual videos. If you use the search box at the top of the screen, and search for “FX Verminator” or “Benjamin Marauder”, you will see how this website works for you. In time, as data accumulate, TedsHoldOver.com will become much more than a place to see current events. It will be a resource for future shooters and hunters. Helping the next generation has been my mission from the very beginning….I wrote it waaaaay back in 2010 on my Youtube page, and it remains there now (as well as on the “about” page of this website).

That is all. Thanks for visiting. Drop by any time. :)
